Cushing holds above 22 million, and our 6 September read edges higher.
Tanks at the WTI delivery point closed the week at 22.5 million barrels, a build of 0.1 million that leaves the hub 2.5 million above the level the trade treats as tank bottoms. Our 6 September satellite read has it at 22.7 million.
A flat week, and the read edges higher
Cushing closed the week to 28 August at 22.5 million barrels: a build of 0.1 million on top of the 1.2 million of the week before, and 2.5 million above the 20 million level the trade treats as unpumpable heel. The week to 24 July printed 18.6 million, the lowest weekly reading since at least 2018. Ten weeks ago, in the week to 19 June, the hub held 19.0 million barrels.
The official series has been chopping in a range since it crossed back above that line. Our 6 September read is 22.7 million, 0.2 million over the 28 August print, which points to a flat to slightly higher week ending 4 September. That print lands on Thursday 10 September.
